Welcome aboard, mate. Things are a little shambled around here, so look lively! If you have questions, ask. Mind where you step, and stay inside the rail. Sound off if you go aloft, and stay out of the fo'c'sle unless you're invited. If you're below, watch for open hatches; you don't want to end up swimmin' in the bilge. If we're boarded, grab whatever weapon's to hand, and prepare to fight. Aside from that...

Magick is afoot, me hearties... Do as you will, and have some fun.

In case it had slipped your notice, I like tall ships, preferably square-riggers, and I'm a fan of the Golden Age of Piracy. I especilly like Captain Calico Jack Rackam, despite his being at best a mediocre pirate, because he had a cool name, and he had two kick-ass women on his crew, Mary Reed and Ann Bonney - a fact which is almost solely why he is notable in history, I'm sure. (Well, okay, he also had the coolest Jolly Roger of the lot - so cool, Disney stole it for Pirates of the Caribbean, and now damn near everybody's using it...) I also appreciate Captain Henry Morgan, not just for the tasty rum named after him, but because he is quite possibly the most successful pirate - excuse me, "privateer" - in history, managing at one point to become acting governor of Jamaica.

I also practice martial magick. I study magick and the martial arts, and how the two interact and compliment one another. You might call me a combat magicician, I suppose, though my primary focus is defensive. I'm finding it difficult, in the politically correct atmosphere of modern paganism, to find much in the way of literature on defensive use of magick - because, of course, that necessitates that there be offensive use of magick, which as we all know, violates the Wiccan Rede and and tempts the wrath of the Three-Fold Law. Even among Pagans who don't subscribe to either of those idea(l)s, though, I have found a generalized resistance to the idea of martial or even defensive magick (beyond basic casting of wards and circles). Older sources I have found include Dion Fortune and Crowley, but I've had dificulty finding any contemporary Pagan authors who are addressing this area of study; an exception being Kerr Cuhulain. If anyone can suggest other modern authors, please do.
